About this event

The Embassy of the Czech Republic invites you to a special screening of the musical film Rebels (Rebelové), on April 24, 2022, at 6 pm, with Czech director Filip Renč.

Called “jaw droppingly buoyant” by Variety film critic Eddie Cockrell, the film centers on three boys in pursuit of three beautiful girls on break from their final exams. The film is set during the Spring of 1968. A Q&A with the director follows the screening. At that time, guests will also have the opportunity to meet Czech Defense Minister Jana Černochová, who is currently visiting Washington, DC.

Film Synopsis: Tereza (Zuzana Norisová) catches the eye of Simon (Jan Révai), and he sweeps her off her feet. However, a looming tension foreshadows the 1968 Soviet invasion. The film features dance numbers to 1960s hits, including Josef Zima’s “Gina” and Karel Svoboda's and Ivo Fischer's “Shadow of the Cathedrals.” The film won Czech Lions for Best Music and Best Costumes in 2002 and was also nominated for Best Art Direction. (Dir. Filip Renč, 2001, 109 min., Czech with English subtitles)
